Every charitable organization in history was born out of a deep compassion of one person. An eventful occasion in which he or she decided to dedicate his or her whole life to serve others. Aster DM Healthcare shares the same story that started with the work of one person and his name is Dr. Azad Moopen. Dr. Moopen joined a medical mission to Dubai way back in 1980’s and back then, medical healthcare in Dubai was practically non-existent and most of the patients he treated were very poor. That was when he decided to set up a clinic in Dubai so he can provide quality healthcare to people who needs it.

From this humble beginning, Aster DM Healthcare was born. Today, Aster is the biggest healthcare network in the Gulf Region, in the Middle East and in India. Just as Dr. Moopen started his clinic in Dubai through a medical mission, a philanthropic work was also made in 2013 where he and his team offered free heart surgeries to Filipino children with congenital heart disease through the project – Save the Little Hearts Program initiated by Aster’s charity arm, the DM Foundation. “We have been in the Philippines for the last three years giving free heart surgeries to underprivileged children. What started as a way of giving back to the Filipino community paved the way for an opportunity to see what is missing and where we can provide help in an organized manner. Setting up clinics and hospitals are something that we have been doing in the past 28 years across the Gulf region, Middle East and India, and we are hoping to do the same in the Philippines, states Aster DM Country manager Joyce Sacao-Alumno.

Every health centers and clinics that were set up by Aster DM, are different from each other. The Philippines being separated by islands, the idea of a Dr. Aster Mobile clinics was conceptualized. These mobile clinics will be equip with the latest medical equipment to cater the medical needs of people in far flung areas all over the country. According to Alumno, Dr. Aster Mobile can be compared to a small clinic, equip with state-of-the-art medical features. For example, while a typical mobile van can only accommodate Chest X-Ray, Dr. Aster Mobile houses an X-Ray machine, that can do all type of images. It also has its own laboratory with its own homolyzer and microscope. What’s more, the vehicle has ECG and ultrasound machine as well as its own medical stretcher bed.

The Dr. Aster Mobile was custom fitted with the geographical condition of the Philippines. The vehicle has its own power supply generator to anticipate areas where there are no electricity. It is also be manned with trained medical doctors and professionals so that patients in remote areas can also receive the best quality care.

A few weeks ago, Aster DM officially launched their Clinic and the event was graced by members of the media, and the medical team of Aster DM Clinic. The Clinic is just a beginning of more big things to come in the future and the Aster Medical team will continue its mission to provide quality healthcare to Filipinos most especially the children with congenital heart diseases.
