Christmas is in the air at Crosswinds, Tagaytay…

My first visit to Crosswinds Tagaytay was in July of this year when my wife, Ruth got a free ”staycation” where all of us family stayed in a Family suite with a breath-taking view of rolling hills with pine trees and swiss-inspired villas. Though the stay was a short one, spending two days in a luxury suite with my family was beyond treasures. So, after that short staycation, we drove back to Manila and brought home valuable memories.

Just a few months after, last November, my wife and I had another opportunity to visit Crosswinds again. I was so quite excited because the temperature is much cooler this time. Though the opportunity was just a day trip, the visit was quite special because it was the launching of Crosswinds Christmas Tree and lights.

The event started with a few photo ops of the rooms of Crosswinds where the blogging group had a very cool time enjoying the scenery and delightful snack prepared for us. After which, the shuttle service brought us to the helipad  area where the giant Christmas tree was placed. It was almost sunset when we got there and the scene was so picturesque.

People gather around a stage where a Christmas play was being performed while a choir sang Christmas carols. Each of us was given tarpaulin mats where we sat and a piece of canvas kept us warm while we enjoy the show.

Soon after the play was finished the host invited all the people to gather around the giant Christmas tree and made its count down and all of us joined in the count. As soon as it hit one, a grand display of fire works filled the evening sky while the lights on the tree were being lit one by one. It was an amazing scene all of us enjoyed.

Soon after, we all took our photos around the tree in turns and we were invited for a sumptuous dinner hosted by the Hospitality Innovators Inc. HII is an hotel and resort management group that handles sixteen different hotels in the Philippines including the Crosswinds Hotel. The Crosswinds Hotel is just a part of the vast development in Tagaytay by Vista Land that offers luxurious residences carefully nestled in rolling hills of greens and pine trees, and one can actually experience a feel of Switzerland with just a two-hour drive from Manila.

The night was still early but the group needs to go down to Manila. We all enjoyed our short stay but certainly will look forward of visiting again this very nice place with my family.

Siklab: Now serving Filipino Favorites that are worth dining for

The Bistro Group, a pioneer in casual dining restaurants, which offers mostly foreign cuisine, finally opened a Filipino Restaurant that depicts Pinoy’s everyday favorite. Since its inception in 1994 in the opening of the first T.G.I Fridays, the Bistro Group has grown to manage more than 50 chain of restaurants all over the country. They’re the same group that brought some iconic food shops and restaurants such as Italianis, which has now 15 branches, of course TGI Fridays with 13 branches, Fish & Co and others.

And now, after 20 years, they are proud to bring in to their loyal food followers something that totally home-grown, introducing SIKLAB Filipino Favorites. SIKLAB is located at the third level of Greenblet 3, right in the heart of the Makati Business District. As the name implies, Siklab specializes in the grilled cuisine which a lot of people are craving for. But of course, the stew-like dishes are also worth a try.

Last October 21, 2013, Siklab opens its doors to the media particularly food-bloggers who were treated with some of its top-notch specialty.

I settled down together with some of the food bloggers who were invited that day and upon sitting down, the friendly waiters offers us some of their special healthy beverages. Among them is the Fresh Lemonade with fresh basil leaves. They also have vegetable juices like carrot and celery.

First dish on the table is the Kuhol cooked in coconut juice. The coconut soup is a little bit spicy but tolerable for my palate. The kuhol is delicious as well. But I guess a dish like this is an acquired-taste for some because no many like eating shell dishes. The dish is served with small forks to scoop the meat inside the shell. At least, no more effort in sucking the meat out of the shell which was the usual process of eating them.

Soon after the kuhol, is  a lighter meal, the Crispy Pork-belly Bacon. These are bacon strips cooked in deep fried, served with lemon and chopped onions and chili. This one is good also but not to my taste since I'm not fund of eating bacon. But for some who are fund of eating bacon, like my wife, I'm sure you'll enjoy them, because its not too salty.

Crispy Pork Belly adobo in eggplant. It was my first time to eat this type of adobo, but its good. The meat of the pork belly were not so tough and the skin of the pork were also so east to eat.

Nos this one is definitely something different. Its Sisig-Fried Rice. For me, its more like a toppings. Ideal for those who wish to eat with something on top of it to complete the "ulam" -rice combo. Good for those who wants to have a quick lunch in between work.

This one is something to look forward to. Siklab's version of Pinakbet. It has all the usual pinakbet ingridients inside plus with some twist in the sauce and crust chicharones on top. The sauce is a little spicy too but not too salty, that is why it taste really good.

The grilled dishes is what makes Siklab is known for. The grilled spare-ribs are definitely something you don't want to miss when you visit Siklab. The meat are marinated in Coconut and soysauce with Chef Josh's secret recipe. The chicken barbecue are cooked in the same way.

Now, if your're saving some space in your tummy for desserts, there two desserts you don't want to miss. The special Biko with choco-powder on top and the Toron 2.0. This I decided not to describe as to not to spoil your anticipation. Better to taste them firsthand and experience a blissful moment as you devour each one them.

Cebu Pacific, GMA Pinoy TV treat 100 Lucky Juans to a joyful homecoming

100 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were reunited with their loved ones in the Philippines through Cebu Pacific and GMA Pinoy TV’s 100 Lucky Juans promo. Families and friends of the winning OFWs surprised their loved ones in a touching reunion celebration at Resorts World Manila.

The 100 Lucky Juans flew back home last October 7, 2013 aboard the Dubai-Manila maiden flight of the country’s leading low-cost carrier. These include Michael Cerillo, who has been working in the UAE for 23 years. “Mula no’ng pagtapak ko sa UAE, ngayon lang nagkaroon ng ganitong promo kaya nagpapapasalamat ako sa kanila. Gusto ko na umuwi kasi nami-miss ko na aking pamilya (Since I set foot in the UAE, this is the first time that they had a promo like this, so I’m really thankful. I really wanted to go home because I miss my family),” he said.

“Nami-miss ko na ang aking bulinggit. Sobrang saya kasi napaaga ‘yung bakasyon ko instead of December (I really miss my little one. I’m so happy because I got to go home earlier for a vacation instead of going in December),” said Joanna Baluyut, who has been working in the Middle East for two years.

“’Yung ticket ko na panalo, sobrang laking tulong na po sa’min na OFW. ‘Yung pera ng pambili mo ng ticket, pampasalubong na sa ‘Pinas (Winning the ticket to fly home is a big help for OFWs like us. The money we could’ve spent on the ticket, we can now give to our families),” added John John Cabrillos, who has been based in the Middle East for a year.

A total of 100 winners were named in the promo’s 14-week run from June 3 to September 2, 2013. To join, the contestants simply had to “like” the official Cebu Pacific Facebook page, click on the 100 Lucky Juans application, and answer the question: “How will I make my homecoming in the Philippines fun?”

Answers were submitted as a photo collage, two-minute video or essay with 200 words or less. These were judged based on creativity, adherence to the theme and the number of “likes” they garnered on the social networking site. The contestant’s length of stay in the UAE was also a factor in the results.

“Cebu Pacific is very proud to be reuniting 100 of our hardworking kababayans with their families in the Philippines. This has made our maiden Dubai-Manila flight a truly meaningful milestone,” said Cebu Pacific President and CEO Lance Gokongwei. “We look forward to be of service to even more Filipinos, as we continue to offer our trademark low fares to even more long haul destinations in the future. ”

“I commend Cebu Pacific for their commitment to serve Global Filipinos. We at the UAE are fortunate to now have a low fare travel alternative so we can come home more often,” said Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Grace Relucio-Princesa. “We look forward to more Cebu Pacific flights in the Middle East soon.”

The first and only Philippine carrier with direct flights to Dubai, Cebu Pacific offers daily flights from Manila starting October 7, 2013, with year-round fares starting at P4,999.
