As a parent like me, it is very heart breaking to see children in their early years of life suffers from under nutrition and its even sadder to see such condition are the reason of the high mortality rate. Many people are unaware that the life of a child starts even before he or she is being born and still being conceived in their mother’s womb. That is why the first 1,000 days in the life of a child is very critical in his/her well-being.
UNICEF, a non-government organization who advocates for the well-being of children all around the world launched the 1,000 days campaign by series of educational forums that encourage all sectors of the society to support its program. It also initiates lobbying with members of the legislative body both the lower house and the Senate to draft strong government policies to ensure the survival of children in their first 1,000 days.
A big part of this campaign is a Fun Run Organized by its celebrity advocate Ms. Ann Curtis. The run dubbed as “Heroes for Children Run” is a public awareness initiative and a fundraising campaign that aims to help the poor communities in our country that has high percentage of poor maternal and child nutrition. The run will be held on October 25, 2015 at the SM Mall of Asia grounds.
The run categories cover, 500 meters, 5k, 10k and 21k half-marathon. And speaking of Half-marathons, one highlight of this fun run is the running debut of Ann to run her first half-marathon. Last September 17, 2015, UNICEF hosted a media launch of the “Heroes for Children Run” at the Discovery Suites, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. During the event, UNICEF Country representative Lotta Sylwander and Ms. Ann Curtis presented the details of its project and Ann even encourages some of the fitness bloggers present to pace her in her challenging feat.
For those who are excited to see and pace/run with Ann Curtis, this is your chance to show her your running prowess and just hope she’ll notice you as you run along with her.
